Tom Ford's $75 Million Cerro Pelon Ranch is Very 'Tom Ford'
Tom Ford, the fashion designer, screenwriter and director, once owned one of New Mexico’s most extraordinary estates.
Located in the Galisteo Basin outside Santa Fe, Cerro Pelon Ranch was listed for $75 million in 2016. After more than four years on the market and a price reduction to $48 million, the vast estate sold in 2021 for an undisclosed sum.
Designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, with the project overseen by architecture and design-build firm Marmol Radziner, Cerro Pelon Ranch extends across more than 20,000 acres — an area larger than Manhattan — and is organised around two compounds personally designed by Ando.
The first centres on the main residence and its expansive reflecting pool, alongside stables for 8 horses. Four separate staff residences and 2 private guest houses were designed by Marmol Radziner.
Elsewhere on the ranch are indoor and outdoor riding arenas, a tennis court, a residence and detached office for the ranch manager, and a private airstrip with an aircraft hangar.
The estate also includes Silverado Movie Town, a Western film set used for productions including Silverado, Wild Wild West and All the Pretty Horses. Architectural plans and scale models also survive for an additional Tadao Ando-designed residential compound that was never built, envisioned for the highest point of the ranch.
