History
The château was first recorded in 1195 and retains elements of its medieval origins, including the remains of an early keep. It was substantially reworked in the early 17th century, a period associated with Pierre II de Crouzet, when much of its present composition was established. In 1792, during the French Revolution, the estate was pillaged. Restoration efforts were later undertaken in the late 18th century under Isidore de Montlaur, before the château passed into private ownership.
In the early 21st century, it underwent a comprehensive restoration under the supervision of France’s Monuments Historiques framework, preserving its architectural features while adapting it for contemporary use.
Set within 15 hectares (37.1 acres) of parkland, the estate is defined by a formal 350-metre perspective overlooking terraced Italian-style gardens, restored under the guidance of landscape architect Gilles Clément. The grounds are planted with centuries-old trees and crossed by a river, with additional features including an orangery and a discreetly integrated swimming pool.
The château is organised around a U-shaped courtyard, with interiors reflecting its layered history. Architectural elements include large Renaissance windows, a monumental double-flight staircase, and a series of reception rooms with 18th-century decorative features such as wood panelling and stucco work. A stone-vaulted chapel, exhibition space, restaurant dining room, and professional kitchens occupy the ground floor.
Upper levels include a seminar room with painted beam-and-joist ceilings and a monumental fireplace, along with a music room and additional reception spaces. At the top of the château, beneath the roofline, a preserved alchemy cabinet remains in situ.
The accommodation is structured as a hospitality asset comprising a total of 32 bedrooms, including 24 hotel guest rooms distributed across the château and ancillary buildings—12 within the main château, 8 in a mill set within the park, and 4 in a woodland house. A 200 m² (2,153 ft²) private duplex apartment within the château provides four additional non-hotel bedrooms, alongside four independent one-bedroom apartments (approximately 50 m² / 538 sq ft each).
The estate is accessed via a formal driveway with two monumental entrances and retains the scale and layout of a historic domain, offering potential for continued hotel, event, or private use.
The property is offered either through the acquisition of company shares, including both real estate and operating business, at €10,388,000, or as a direct asset sale at €10,918,000.
