A Converted Castle in the Heart of Tuscany, Italy

Originally a castle dating back to the 12th century, the castle was transformed into a villa by a noble Florentine family between the 15th and 19th centuries.

Originally a castle dating back to the 12th century, the property evolved over the centuries with various additions, such as the tower, which is a copy of the Piazza Signoria tower in the centre of Florence and was added in the 14th century.

Between the 15th and 19th centuries, the Tuscan estate was owned by the noble Florentine family, who transformed the property into a villa, built upon the castle ruins.

In 1910, the property was sold to the British aristocratic Sitwell family, who added the formal gardens to the estate, modelled after Sir George Sitwell’s home in Yorkshire, England.

During the Second World War, the villa served as the secret hiding place for some of the greatest art from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence—no easy feat as the villa also served as a temporary SS headquarters during this time!

The villa has its own art history as well, featuring works by prominent Italian painters throughout the ages, including Raphael Sanci, Cosimo Ulivelli, and Gino Severini.

Spanning over 47,000 square feet, the property offers a total of 58 bedrooms and 87 bathrooms across the main villa and outbuildings.

There are several grand reception rooms primed for formal gatherings and events, and there is also a Romanesque chapel dating from the late 16th century.

Nestled in the Tuscan countryside, the Italian estate spans 24.71 acres and the villa is surrounded by terraced gardens and a large swimming pool with a charming grotto featuring mythical creatures and figures depicted in gold mosaic and shells.

The Tuscan villa for sale is set in Cerbaia, a Tuscan town in the Chianti hills, just a 30 minute drive west of Florence,

The Austrian castle has a rich history hosting illustrious guests from across Europe, including Emperor Napoleon, composer Franz Schubert, Pope Pius VI, Princess Isabella of Parma and Emperor Franz Stephan von Lothringen.

The 900-year old castle is known as Mozart’s Last Castle because it was here he composed “Requiem in D minor,” commissioned for Count Franz Anton Walsegg to honor his late wife Anna Countess von Walsegg which died at the castle on Valentine’s Day 1791.

The manuscript would be his final work and was completed by his student after his death in 1791. It remained at Schloss Stuppach until 1830 when it entered the Austrian National Library and it is one of the most valuable manuscripts in the world.

Built in 1130 and modified in the 15th and 17th centuries, Schloss Stuppach boasts 50 rooms spread across 27,000 sq ft with 4 bedrooms, 3+5 bathrooms, with historically significant structures like the “Requiem” chapel, the Jardinière and a dungeon.

Now a world-class attraction and event center for music performances and lectures, the Austrian castle comes with independent business areas such as a club salon, an experience theater, a concert program and a castle shop.

One of the few castles in Lower Austria that’s still in private hands, Schloss Stuppach is set in the small mountain town of Gloggnitz in Lower Austria, a convenient distance from Austria’s capital, Vienna.

Bob Dylan's Scottish Highlands Estate Sells to Whisky Maker

Set within Cairngorm National Park, Aultmore House was a home base for the Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter who owned the Scottish Highlands estate for 17 years.

The Scottish Highlands estate is reported to have sold for £4,257,000 to Angus Dundee Distillers.

Bob Dylan co-owned the country estate for 17 years, alongside his brother, and the siblings would stay at Aultmore House for a few weeks a year until pre-Covid times.

Having not been able to use the property in recent years, the Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter listed the property with Knight Frank in July asking for offers over £3,000,000.

Aultmore House is nestled in a 25 acres estate, set within Cairngorm National Park in the Scottish Highlands.

Surrounded by mature forest , this region is famed for its bird life, and one of Scotland’s prime fishing rivers, the River Spey, is only 1 mile away.

The "A grade" listed Edwardian house was built between 1911 and 1914, designed by London architect and designer, C.H.B. Quenell in the Edwardian style.

Aultmore House was built as a summer house for Archibald Merrilees, whose father, an Aberdonian, and his partner, Mr Muir had amassed a fortune in trade along the North Sea route to Russia, and later founded the Moscow department store, M&M.

After WWII, the impressive country house served as a convalescent home for the Forces, with the gardeners’ cottages used for evacuees. In the 1970s, it became a finishing school for girls, and by the 1990s it was briefly run as a bed and breakfast, before falling into disrepair.

Aultmore House was restored in the early 2000s and further improved by Bob Dylan and his brother when they purchased the Scottish Highlands estate in 2006.

Offering a total of 23 bedrooms across 3 levels of accommodation, the country house features fine period detailing throughout with intricate plasterwork on the ceilings and arches, original wood floors, and Adam style marble fireplaces in most reception rooms.

There are also three fully renovated cottages on-site.

The Scottish estate offers a charming country lifestyle, located 1.5 miles from the Highland village of Nethy Bridge, with a local pub, butcher's shop, primary school and 9-hole golf course, just 12 miles from shops and restaurants in Aviemore, and 15 miles from the Cairngorm ski area.

Inverness Airport is 41 miles from the estate and offers regular flights to London, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, and other UK and European destinations.

Partly-Moated English Country House Set in Private Parkland

Stanfield Hall is set in 35 acres of mature parkland near the market town of Wymondham in Norfolk, England.

The country house was built in 1792 on the site of a medieval moated manor and a chapel which dates back to the 13th century, and is partly constructed of reused monastic stone and features 16th century ceiling beams.

The romantic property showcases several architectural influences, with its Tudor-style brick elevations, a Gothic-style stone staircase hall, and fine period detailing throughout.

The 8-bedroom property also benefits from modern amenities like an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, home gym, and a screening room.

Surrounded by landscaped grounds with formal gardens and terraces, the estate also has a tennis court and 2 cottages.

The historic property has a gruesome history as the site of an infamous Victorian-era double murder. In 1848, the home’s owner Isaac Jermy, and his son were shot dead on the porch of the property by their tenant-farmer, James Bloomfield Rush.

The crime, which became known as the Murders at Stanfield Hall, resulted in a lengthly trial where Rush defended himself in a 14-hour closing speech, yet the jury delivered the guilty verdict only 10 minutes later.

On the day of his execution, train operators ran special services for the 20,000 people who attended the event at the nearby Norwich Castle, which novelist Charles Dickens described as “a grand place for a scoundrel’s exit.”
