Cliffside Home in Southern California Sells for $9.6 Million
An oceanfront estate known as Villa Sul Mare in Palos Verdes Estates has sold for approximately $9.6 million, marking a notable residential transaction along one of Southern California’s most exclusive coastal corridors.
The property was listed and sold by the Lauren Forbes Group at Compass. Known as Villa Sul Mare, the Italian-inspired bluff-top residence occupies a site above the Pacific Ocean.
Completed in the 1990s, the 5-bedroom home spans roughly 7,500 square feet on more than half an acre and features approximately 270 feet of bluff-front ocean frontage, combining gated privacy with expansive, unobstructed coastal views along Paseo Del Mar. Palos Verdes Estates is one of Southern California’s most affluent residential communities, perched on dramatic bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles County.
The town was designed in the early 20th century as a carefully planned community, distinguished by Mediterranean-inspired architecture, winding roads, and an integrated system of greenbelt parks.
Beyond the city itself, the broader Palos Verdes Peninsula has attracted notable figures over the decades. Residents of the region have included Oprah Winfrey, who previously owned a home in Palos Verdes Estates, and Elon Musk. Other well-known figures, including Magic Johnson and Michael Douglas, have lived elsewhere on the peninsula, as did Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who maintained a cliffside residence in the area during the 1970s.
Francis York will continue reporting on significant residential sales and architecturally notable properties around the world.
