The nearly 2-acre Shakespeare Chateau Inn & Gardens estate in St. Joseph, Missouri, includes three historic buildings: the 1885 main residence, a carriage house with three apartments, and a pre-Civil War brick house that remains largely undeveloped and in need of restoration.

Set in Andlau, a historic wine village on the Alsace Wine Route in eastern France, the house was updated in the 1970s around a sculptural fireplace by Jacques Couëlle, a distinctive figure in postwar French architecture known for his organic, sculptural houses.
