18th-Century Stone House Near Uzès in the South of France

Located about five minutes from the historic town, the residence sits on a south-facing hillside overlooking the surrounding countryside and offers approximately 400 m² (4,306 ft²) of living space.

In the Gard region, Uzès is one of southern France’s most remarkably preserved historic towns. Its medieval streets and limestone façades converge around the arcaded Place aux Herbes, where weekly markets bring together olive oil producers, cheesemakers, and artisans, while the surrounding countryside unfolds in vineyards, cypress trees, and low limestone hills.

Compared with prime Provençal markets such as the Luberon or the Alpilles, property around Uzès often offers more space and historic character at similar price points.

The house itself has been carefully renovated while maintaining its traditional Provençal character. Many of the windows face the landscaped garden and surrounding hills, offering 180-degree views across the countryside.

At the center of the residence is a 100 m² (1,076 ft²) living room with a fireplace and a mix of waxed concrete and stone flooring. The space opens onto a south-facing terrace shaded by an arbour.

A 35 m² (377 ft²) dining room connects to a fully fitted kitchen set within a vaulted room. The house includes five bedrooms, including two located on the ground floor with a bathroom and dressing room.

Additional rooms on the garden level include a vaulted bedroom with stone floors and a shower room, along with several technical spaces including a laundry room, workshop, boiler room, and wine cellar. Upstairs, a secondary living room or library serves two further bedrooms and a shower room.

Outside, the landscaped Mediterranean garden extends across approximately 3,000 m² (0.30 hectares / 0.74 acres) and is planted with cypress and olive trees, climbing plants, and white roses. A swimming pool sits within the terraced grounds positioned to take advantage of the open hillside views.

The property is within convenient reach of Avignon and Nîmes TGV stations, both about 30 minutes away, while the landscapes of the Camargue and the Mediterranean coast can be reached in roughly an hour.

An additional 600 m² (6,458 ft²) plot of land adjacent to the property is also available for purchase.
