This ‘Captain’s Palace’ is a Crown Jewel of Montenegro

Palazzo Tripkovic is one of the finest ship master’s mansions dating back to the 18th century.

Set in the village of Dobrota, once one of the most important Mediterranean maritime centres in the world, this unique property is one of the most famous “captain palaces”, registered with a historic designation.

It was built by one of the most important families in Dobrota, the Tripkovic, who greatly influenced trade, construction, and cultural development throughout this region in the 18th and 19th century. The family owned 18 vessels, with 63 members of the family ranked as ship captains.

It was Captain Andrija Tripkovic, head of the local commune and was a member of the Kotor administration, who built this palace in the late 18th century. It is set high above the scenic shores along with an enclosed port and defense wall bearing the family’s coat of arms.

Today, the property offers private mooring for a large yacht or boat, and has been painstakingly restored over several years to its former glory, under the guidance of local experts and using original materials.

The palazzo, built of finely carved Korcula stone, is decorated in the Baroque style, with balustrades, cornices, and even a belvedere pediment crowning the top of the residence.

Spanning 11,840 Sq Ft, the residence offers 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms across 4 levels. Surrounded by thick stone walls, the property has terraced gardens and offers stunning views over Boka Bay.

A truly unique and historically significant property in one of the most beautiful settlements of the Bay of Kotor, Palazzo Tripkovic is one of the most exclusive properties on the market in Montenegro right now.
