Västerstad Herrgård, a 200-year-old manor in southern Sweden, has been listed for SEK 42 million, or about €3.8 million, with Residence Christie’s International Real Estate. Set on 5.79 acres (2.34 hectares), the 19-room house spans 12,917 ft² (1,200 m²) and has recently undergone a major renovation for modern living, including a hammam and spa, bespoke kitchen, climate control and smart-home systems.
The property is in Västerstad, near Hörby in Skåne, Sweden’s southernmost region. It sits in open countryside surrounded by farmland, with several equestrian centres nearby, including Flyinge Royal Stud and Västerstad Riding School. A long avenue of 200-year-old linden trees leads to the house, with a circular boxwood garden and fountain at the front.
The manor house itself dates to the early 19th century. Its formal layout remains largely intact, with a sequence of salons, tiled stoves, paneled double doors and decorative stuccowork. The twin entrances are framed by columns with decorative capitals designed by Swedish architect Helgo Zettervall.
The recent renovation has focused on making the house work as a contemporary home while retaining those earlier architectural details. Specialist conservators worked on the historic elements, while Swedish workshops produced new custom joinery and period-appropriate windows.
The newer additions are much more modern. The kitchen has bespoke cabinetry with handcrafted Marbodal fronts and Qvesarum fittings, while the bathrooms use limestone and brass. A hammam and spa have also been incorporated into the house. Cooling and ventilation were added throughout, along with Plejd smart-home controls, integrated lighting and concealed security.
The estate itself is much older than the current house. Västerstad can be traced back to the 16th century, when it was connected to the Archbishop of Lund, whose church administration controlled extensive landholdings across the region. The estate later passed to the Crown and then into private noble ownership, with the Ramel and De la Gardie families among those associated with it. Much of the wider landed estate was divided and sold during the 19th century.
Outside, the property includes formal gardens, a west-facing terrace overlooking the surrounding fields, a renovated detached guesthouse and former agricultural buildings, including a barn and machinery hall.
