‘Price upon Request’, but we're guessing somewhere north of £65,000,000 based on estimates in 2016. The property dates back to the 13th century and Christie's describes the 260-acre residence as one “tells the story of the history of England, through its incarnation from Royal deer park, to hunting lodge, to grand aristocratic residence”.

During the Second World War, more than 18,500 troops were treated at the estate, which was on-loan as a hospital for the Royal Canadian Army.

Publishing tycoon William Barry lived at his estate until his death in 1995, at which point it was passed on to Lady Camrose, mother of Aga Khan, until her death in 1997. It was reportedly sold for £14,500,000 in the early 2000’s to a foreign billionaire who invested in a substantial renovation for the estate.

The Mansion has gone through an extensive restoration bringing it back to it's original glory. There are 24 bedrooms and 20 full baths and the property has a total of 260 acres consisting of a Park with medieval origins, manicured lawns, avenues, walks and terraces, farmland, pastures, a deer park, and an eighteenth century woodland garden which features a temple, amphitheatre, and a fountain. Additional features include a stable yard, coach house, two detached houses, and two entrance houses.

The property has several historic designations, including the Grade II listed ornate wrought-iron gates to the estate, surrounded by grazing pastures for sheep and deer and the Grade I listed parklands and botanial gardens, designed by Charles Bridgeman and James Gibbs; the mansion is a Grade II listed building.

A 340-Acre Piece of American History - Jackie Kennedy’s Red Gate Farm Estate

Red Gate Farm “was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit,” Caroline Kennedy wrote in a statement about her mother’s purchase of the $1 million dollar property in 1979.

This property is listed by Christie’s International Real Estate through Tom LeClair and Gery Conover of LandVest.

With over a mile of private Atlantic Ocean beachfront and dunes, as well as a fairytale-themed treehouse Ms. Onassis built for her grandchildren, Red Gate Farm “was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit,” Caroline Kennedy wrote in a statement about her mother’s purchase of the $1 million dollar property.

Jackie Kennedy purchased the Martha’s Vineyard sheep farm in 1979 and set about to make it her own, transforming it into a magnificent estate that would be treasured for three generations.

Although the Kennedy Compound was not far in Cape Cod, Jackie wanted to create a smaller, more private retreat for her family, surrounded by the Aquinnah landscape of sand dunes and rolling hills.

She commissioned architect Hugh Newell Jacobson to design the Cape Cod-style main house and the two-story guest house.

She also hired her friend Rachel (Bunny) Mellon to design the estate's landscape, after she had redesigned the White House Rose Garden while Kennedy was in office. The home was completed in 1981, although the property was further renovated and expanded in 2000 under the direction of Deborah Berke, Dean of the Yale School of Architecture.

The expansive estate includes a vegetable garden and blueberry patch, an outdoor pool, and tennis court, as well as hunting cabin, barn, and a boathouse.

One of the Greatest Houses in All of Italy

A couple of years ago, I came across a listing for a beautiful Palladian mansion in northern Italy that stated: "PALLADIAN VILLA OF HIGHEST IMPORTANCE".

A couple of years ago, I came across a listing by Sotheby’s Venice, for a beautiful Palladian mansion in northern Italy that stated: "PALLADIAN VILLA OF HIGHEST IMPORTANCE," with very little additional information provided in the description which had been very clearly translated from Italian to English.

As a great admirer of history and architecture, I knew there was more to this property. So I set about researching: I soon discovered that the property I was admiring was Villa Cornaro, considered to be one of the greatest houses in all of Italy.

Located in Piombino Dese, about 30 km from Venice, it was constructed between 1553-1554 for Giorgio Cornaro, the younger son of a powerful Venetian family.

One of 24 surviving villas designed by Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, considered to be one of the most influential people in the history of architecture with the Palladian style of architecture named after him. This villa is illustrated and described by him in Book Two of his 1570 treaties, I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura (The Four Books on Architecture).

23 Venetian buildings and 24 Palladian Villas designed by Andrea Palladio are part of a UNESCO Heritage Site named “City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto”. See the list of Villas here

What is most notable about this property is its influence on the history of architecture around the world. The Palladian style has been used as a model for villas including Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the US.  Drayton Hall, an 18th-century plantation house in Charleston, S.C., was also heavily influenced by this design.

In 1989, the villa was purchased for $2 million by a couple from Atlanta, Georgia. Carl and Sally Gable, who became the sixth family to occupy the villa in its 400+ year history.

The Gables “fell in love with the villa immediately, and wholly–emotionally, sensually, intellectually. To contemplate buying it and living there was like being asked to become a princess and live in a fairy tale.”

They subsequently released a book about their journey (and adventures) purchasing and restoring this historical treasure.

“In Villa Cornaro they acquired a magnificent piece of architecture, with not only rigorously proportioned rooms topped by 24-foot ceilings, but also a trove of important artworks. One hundred and four frescoes decorate the walls of 13 of the 14 principal rooms. (Old Testament subjects are on the lower floor; New Testament upstairs.) The exception is the lower-floor grand salon, which is ornamented with six eight-foot-tall statues of Cornaro family members, created around 1590 by the sculptor Camillo Mariani"

Notable details include original terazzo floors and pale lavender stenciled walls on the upper-floor study, and an office suite designed by the early 20th-century Milanese cabinetmaker Carlo Zen.

After living in the villa for 30 years, the couple listed the Palladian masterpiece in 2017 for $45 million. Once open to the public for scheduled visits, the villa is currently under renovation.

Merrywood Estate, the Childhood Home of Jackie Kennedy

An iconic estate which has become eponymous with grace, class, and Americana. Jackie grew up on the estate with her sisters, spending her free-time swimming, horseback riding, and playing tennis.

Merrywood Estate, the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is an iconic estate which has become eponymous with grace, class, and Americana.

The estate was built in 1919 by Newbold Noyes, owner and associate editor of the Washington Star newspaper. The two-storey Georgian mansion, surrounded by terraced gardens, originally boasted 46-acres of virgin land when it was purchased from the Noyes' estate in 1930, by Hugh D. Auchincloss II, a Standard Oil heir most famous for being the step-father of Jackie O.

Merrywood is one of the finest estates in Virginia, situated in the affluent neighborhood of McLean – just northwest of Washington D.C. – with 7 sprawling acres overlooking the Potomac River.

The property is located a few miles away from Mount Vernon, the family home of George Washington, who himself had once surveyed Merrywood's sprawling lands.

The 1940's brought the estate into prominence in large part due to Jackie's mother, Janet, who would host lavish parties and come to be known as the Mistress of Merrywood.

Jackie grew up on the estate with her sisters, spending her free-time swimming, horseback riding, and playing tennis. Her step-brother, famed American writer Gore Vidal, also lived on the estate, although not concurrently, and put the home as the centre of his 1967 novel "Washington D.C.".

The estate home spread across 23,000 square feet, with indoor and outdoor pools, a tennis court, several common rooms for entertaining, nine bedroom suites, and 11 full bathrooms.

Beyond its storied past, Merrywood is an architectural gem. With its original moldings still intact, and a garden designed by famed 19th- and 20th-century landscape architect Beatrix Ferrand, it's a piece of American history.

The home previously sold for $24.5 million to AOL co-founder Steve Case in 2005. The property was sold in 2018 to the Saudi Government for $43.5 million.

The 20,000 acre property comes with a film set named “Silverado Movie Town” where several films have been shot including: Silverado, Wild Wild West, and All the Pretty Horses.

tom-ford

Tom Ford, fashion designer, screenwriter, and director, has listed his estate in New Mexico. Located in the Galisteo Basin right outside of Santa Fe, the estate known as Cerro Pelon Ranch was listed for $75 million in 2016. The photos show that the property is a modern work of art.

Designed by architect Tadao Ando and overseen by architect and design-build firm Marmol Radziner the property has 20,000 acres (which is more land than Manhattan) with 2 compounds personally designed by Tadao. The first compound has the main residence with a beautiful reflecting pool and a stables for 8 horses. There are 4 separate staff quarters and 2 private guest houses which were designed by Marmol Radziner.

The property features 2 riding rings, (an indoor and an outdoor), a tennis court, a home with a detached office for the ranch manager, and an air strip with airplane hanger for private planes. Also included is a film set named Silverado Movie Town where several films have been shot including: Silverado, Wild Wild West, All the Pretty Horses, and others.

Interestingly there are architectural plans and scale models for another residential compound designed by Tadao Ando but never built. The compound was planned for the highest point of the ranch.
