The Lindens was built in 1910 for Max Fleischmann, heir to the Fleischmann's Yeast fortune. One of the largest opponents of the Prohibition, the renowned bootlegger is said to have inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Gatsby character.

The greatest stories are inspired by reality, and in the 1920s, F. Scott Fitzgerald attended countless soirees at the mansions along the North Shore, also known as the Gold Coast of Long Island.
