Bourg-en-Bresse is probably not the first place that comes to mind when searching for a château in France—and that is partly what makes this one so interesting.

Before designing Parc Monceau in the 8th arrondissement, Louis Carrogis Carmontelle laid out one of France’s earliest romantic parks at this 18th-century château less than an hour from Paris.

The château dates to the 16th century and was once held by one of France’s oldest noble families, while the wider estate carries a permit for 17 villas within its forested grounds.
